Patty’s Dance of Abstraction Patty Flauto’s Creative Path Patty Flauto is a contemporary abstract painter and art educator based in Rocky River, Ohio. Her artistic practice centers on exploring the question “Is it possible to discern real from not real?” This curiosity drives her abstract work, where she finds beauty not in finding your way through a painting, but in discovering the joy of getting lost within it. Her paintings are built from perceptual landscapes, combining geometric and organic shapes found in nature. Using quick-drying acrylics, she creates layered compositions that collide and hang in balance, leading to unexpected outcomes. Dissonance is intentional in her work, explored through infinite variations. The textured, layered surfaces reflect her extensive background in textiles and patterns from her career as a Creative Director in product design. Patty holds an M.F.A. in Fiber Arts from Kent State University and a B.F.A. from Youngstown State University. She has studied at prestigious institutions including the Arts Students League of New York, Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Woodstock School of Art. As an educator, she has taught color and design courses both nationally and internationally, including at the Cleveland Museum of Art and American Greetings Shanghai Studios in China. A Distinguished Career Patty’s work has gained national recognition through exhibitions at major institutions including The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Institute of American Art, and The McDonough Museum. She is an elected member of the Allied Artists of America and serves on the boards of Artists Archives of The Western Reserve and the Contemporary Art Society Affinity Group at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Her recent achievements include a Silver Award at the 2025 All Abstract exhibition in Scottsdale, Arizona, and a Best in Show Platinum Award at the 2022 All Abstracts exhibition. Her work appears in corporate collections including American Greetings, TransDigm Group, Wells Fargo Advisors, and The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Cleveland.
