Creative Impulse, Dale Goode
The Archives is Expanding!
The building that AAWR has shared for the past twenty-four years with The Sculpture Center will soon be occupied solely by the Artists Archives. AAWR is extremely excited about the prospect of more than doubling its home gallery space, and its capacity to showcase its collection, which now numbers close to 10,000 works by 100 artists. To celebrate on September 8, we are presenting two solo inaugural Archived Artists exhibitions simultaneously in separate gallery spaces. Creative Impulse: Archived Artist Dale Goode, and Terry Klausman, A Retospective, will both open on the same night.
Artist Dale Goode work was archived in 2020, and a small selection from the collection will be shown along with never before seen works on paper from 2019 – 2023, and two mixed media sculptures in Creative Impulse.
Dale has been creating art for more than 40 years and has a history of working with found materials in an unconventional way. Much of his work, regardless of medium, has to do with the repurposing and recontextualizing unwanted areas and materials. His sculpture in particular combines discarded objects, and clothing into very expressionistic, almost frenzied works mounted onto old fences and heavily coated in gesso, and other donated paints. The combination of materials for these works evoke a kind of transformational pathos for a society that creates so much waste. His historical use of gold paint over the entire sculpture is a statement about what is considered valuable and what is not in terms of both humans and objects, and the comparison between socio-economically and racially divided classes of people. His two-dimensional work, collage, paintings and mono prints are very similar in their intent and in their use of experimental process and incorporation of discarded waste. (Source: ohio.org)
