Hike + Write
Just what you need as we head into winter! On this hike we'll think about ecosystems, ecology and interdependence among species. We'll explore the nature of the self as a social construct and practice mindfulness about how we fit within a natural/ecological context.
About Hike + Write
Started in 2022, Hike + Write is a partnership between the University of Cincinnati English Department and Cincinnati Parks. Hike + Write was envisioned as a way to connect folks with the parks in their community and empower those who may feel intimidated by hiking alone to experience their neighborhood green space in community with others.
Led by a UC faculty or grad student writer alongside Cincinnati Parks Naturalist Lara Wardlow, hikes are free and open to the public and take place monthly throughout the academic year.
Hikers can expect to learn about the ecosystem and history of Cincinnati’s woods and trails as well as reflect and write about a theme especially chosen for each hike. Participants on past hikes have written about decay and renewal, tasted pawpaws, reflected by the campfire on ways to decolonize our relationship with nature, learned about deforestation and reforestation, explored the woods as site of serenity and fear, and much more.
This calendar listing is brought to you by Cincy A&E, the Cincinnati region's one-stop, online calendar for arts and entertainment events, powered by ArtsWave.
This project is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the Cincinnati region’s primary source for arts funding.
