Join Dr. Carlson, Producing Artistic Director of Ohio Contemporary Ballet, as she explores the unique history of the Bacchanale sculpture of the great ballerina, Anna Pavlova, housed at the Cleveland Museum of Art. This sculpture was the inspiration for choreographer Robert Gardner's new ballet, Bacchanale. Sculpted by Malvina Hoffman it was overseen by Anna Pavlova to maintain absolute balletic accuracy. Anna Pavlova is known as the world’s prima ballerina assoluta. Hitting her peak in the 1920’s, and forever known for her rendition of The Dying Swan, unknown to many is that she also choreographed. Those few works are lost to history but one, Bacchanale, was preserved by the sculptor, Malvina Hoffman. Enjoy a boxed lunch during the lecture and then stay for see a sneak peak of the new ballet before it appears on stage on February 10th.
