Bethlehem Cave and Marketplace tour

2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, OH 44312
The Bethlehem Cave, located in Nativity of the Lord Jesus Church, is a replica of the cave where Jesus was born as it appears today in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. It includes the Altar of the Nativity, the Altar of the Magi and the Manger of the Infant Jesus. Throughout the church building, there are displays of over 400 hundred Nativity scenes from different countries. In December, we also offer the Bethlehem Marketplace, which is a hands-on activity that gives the visitor the experience of the town of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus. Shopkeepers dress in period garb and guide visitors in their experience. They taste honey soaked pastries, weave a mat, make jewelry, select and grind herbs and play a game common to children in Jesus' time. A tour of the church and Bethlehem Cave is also provided as part of this experience.  Visitors can do a scavenger hunt among the Nativities and dress in costume to take pictures as part of a life-size Nativity scene. The Bethlehem Marketplace, with the tour presentation, is available to the public on December 7 at 10:00 AM. Large groups can reserve a separate time to do a tour which includes the marketplace from December 2-16. Advanced registration is required. Spaces will be limited for this event, so please register early. There is a $3.00 per participant fee. Email [email protected] for more information.
