The Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University will present an exhibition of recent works by Columbus-born, New York-based artist Nanette Carter in Fall 2025. The exhibition, running from August 22, 2025, to January 11, 2026, will also feature a new commission by the artist for the contemporary arts space.
Carter, known for her exploration of abstraction, draws inspiration from jazz, Abstract Expressionism, and Japanese prints. Since the 1990s, she has extensively utilized Mylar, an industrial material that allows for transparency and spatial complexity in her work. Her art often reflects on societal issues such as violence, social unrest, and media saturation, while also exploring themes of balance and the pursuit of equilibrium.
The exhibition will be complemented by an opening celebration on Friday, August 22, and a Wex Open House on Sunday, August 25, aimed at welcoming students back to campus with artmaking activities and gallery experiences. Further event details are expected to be announced on wexarts.org.
