Opera Columbus has unveiled its 2025-2026 season, themed “From Page to Stage: Stories in Music.” This season will explore the transformative journey of literary works into operatic narratives, highlighting the connection between storytelling and musical performance. The season features a diverse repertoire, including modern adaptations and classic productions.
The season opens with Daniel Catán’s “Rappaccini’s Daughter” in September 2025 at the Southern Theatre, based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story. This will be followed by Paola Prestini’s innovative staging of “The Old Man and the Sea” in October 2025 at Mershon Auditorium, a co-production with the Wexner Center for the Arts. In February 2026, the company will present Joseph Bologne’s “The Anonymous Lover” at the Palace Theatre, recognized as one of the earliest operas by a Black composer. The season concludes with a co-production alongside the Columbus Symphony Orchestra of Verdi’s iconic “La Traviata” in April 2026 at the Ohio Theatre.
In addition to its mainstage productions, Opera Columbus will host the Cooper-Bing Competition on May 17, 2026, at the Southern Theatre, an internationally recognized event dedicated to supporting emerging opera artists. Subscriptions for the 2025-2026 season are now available.
