(Cleveland, OH) Cleveland Play House (CPH) and Seattle Rep will co-produce the premiere of the new musical ‘Freak The Mighty,’ scheduled to run from May 22 to June 21, 2026. Based on Rodman Philbrick’s beloved novel, the musical features book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe and music by Ryan Fielding Garrett.
Directed by CPH Artistic Director Michael Barakiva and choreographed by David Connolly, ‘Freak The Mighty’ tells the story of two unlikely friends, Maxwell Kane and Kevin Avery, who together become the heroic duo known as ‘Freak The Mighty.’ The production aims to celebrate friendship, resilience, and community. The musical is shepherded by Tony Award-winning producers of ‘Come From Away.’
CPH Artistic Director Michael Barakiva expressed his honor in premiering this musical, stating, “It is an honor to be premiering this moving new musical about friendship and healing, which we all need now more than ever.” The co-production with Seattle Rep and Junkyard Dog Productions signifies a collaborative effort to bring this heartwarming story to audiences of all ages.
