The Toledo Museum of Art has been named the Best Art Museum in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best readers’ choice contest for the second consecutive year. The museum also earned the distinction of Best Free Art Museum on the same list.
Founded in 1901, the Toledo Museum of Art has offered free admission since its opening. The museum’s campus spans 37 acres and houses a collection of more than 30,000 works across over 40 galleries of rotating and permanent exhibitions. The institution has long emphasized community education alongside its role as a cultural repository.
Museum leadership held an event on Feb. 26 to share the results with staff. The recognition comes as TMA prepares for a major gallery reorganization — its first in nearly 40 years — that will see the collection displayed chronologically rather than by geographic origin. In additional local recognition, the National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo was named the second-best maritime museum in the country on the same USA Today list.
