The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced details of its 2026-27 season under Music Director Cristian Măcelaru, with programs that place vocal soloists at the center of several major performances at Cincinnati Music Hall.

The season opens Oct. 17 and 18, 2026, with “Songs of Destiny,” a program pairing Brahms’ “Nänie” and “Schicksalslied” with Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto featuring soloist Alexandra Conunova. The May Festival Chorus will join the orchestra for the Brahms works, and the program includes Herbert Howells’ orchestral rhapsody “Lamia.”

A highlight of the spring slate is Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” on March 13 and 14, 2027, with Măcelaru conducting soloists Louise Alder, Karen Cargill, Nicholas Phan, and Morgan Smith alongside the May Festival Chorus. The pairing of prominent vocal soloists with the CSO’s orchestral forces signals the organization’s continued investment in large-scale choral and vocal repertoire.
