Ohio University’s School of Art + Design hosted its biennial State of the Arts: Mentor + Mentee exhibition in March 2026 at the Research and Technology Center Galleries in Athens, bringing together 13 high school art teachers and 23 students from across Ohio in a juried show presented by the Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts.

The exhibition accepted all visual art forms and invited educators to identify students for joint applications, making the submission process itself collaborative. Each pair could submit up to three works per participant, giving visitors a fuller picture of each student’s creative development in relation to their teacher’s guidance. Every participant received a personalized certificate recognizing their creative achievements.

Beyond recognition, the exhibition served as a platform for professional development and future opportunity. Select students were considered for scholarships to the university’s Chaddock + Morrow Summer Arts Programs, underscoring Ohio University’s investment in high school artists statewide. A closing reception marked the end of the show, bringing together artists, educators, and community members for a final evening of viewing and connection.
