The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown is accepting entries for its 89th National Midyear Exhibition, with a deadline of April 17, 2026. The exhibition, running July 12 through August 20, 2026, is open to artists 18 and older residing in the United States or its territories. Works must be two-dimensional or relief, created after January 1, 2024, and not previously shown in Butler exhibitions. Up to three works may be submitted for an entry fee of $50.
The juror is Dr. Louis A. Zona, Director Emeritus of the Butler Institute, who served more than four decades as the museum’s Executive Director and Chief Curator. Cash awards will be announced at the opening reception on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. in the MacIntosh and Finnegan-Hynes Galleries. One special “Midyear Prize” will award the recipient a solo gallery exhibition at the Butler in the following calendar year, including shipping and insurance costs.
Shipped works must arrive between June 2 and June 16, 2026. In-person delivery is accepted June 4–6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Butler Institute of American Art, located at 524 Wick Ave. in Youngstown, is a free admission museum dedicated to American art.
