The Toledo Museum of Art opened “Cursed! The Power of Magic in the Ancient World” on March 21, 2026, an exhibition featuring 75 artifacts drawn from the museum’s permanent collection and lenders worldwide. The show runs through July 5, 2026, and explores how ancient peoples across cultures understood and interacted with supernatural forces including magic, ghosts, and witchcraft.
Curator Jeffrey Spier assembled the exhibition around objects — among them sculptures, amulets, and ancient scrolls — that document belief systems in which curses, spells, and protective charms played a central role in daily life. The museum positions the show as an opportunity for visitors to draw connections between ancient anxieties and contemporary human concerns.
The Toledo Museum of Art is located on Monroe Street in Toledo, Ohio, and offers free general admission. “Cursed!” is included with regular museum entry.
