The Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood is presenting “Abstract Infrastructure,” a solo exhibition by Berea-based artist Debbie Clapper, on view in the Berkey Gallery through July 12, 2026. Clapper creates intricate geometric compositions entirely freehand, working with archival pens on Bristol paper without the use of rulers, compasses, or other mechanical instruments.
Clapper graduated from Lutheran High School West in 1998 and returned to Northeast Ohio from Colorado in 2020. Her work, including the featured piece “… Of Course I Was Mistaken,” uses hand-drawn precision as both subject and method, prompting questions about the relationship between control and organic process in visual art. Associate Director of Visual Arts Melinda Placko oversees the gallery’s programming at Beck Center.
An artist reception is scheduled for May 22, 2026, and Clapper will lead a public Sketchbook Workshop on April 25. Both events are free and open to the public. Beck Center for the Arts is located on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio, and serves as a multidisciplinary arts organization offering visual arts, theater, and dance programming.
