The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) has assumed operational leadership of the Idea Foundry, a creative makerspace in Columbus’s Franklinton neighborhood, following the signing of a lease with the City of Columbus. The agreement, announced February 19, 2026, places a new CAPA-created nonprofit in charge of day-to-day operations, drawing on the organization’s track record managing arts venues including the Ohio Theatre and the Palace Theatre.
CAPA President and CEO Chad Whittington said the organization aims to create a stable, supportive environment for Idea Foundry members while making key investments in the facility. Plans include exploring opportunities to integrate performing arts programming into the makerspace’s existing maker-driven community. Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther called the arrangement a partnership built on stewardship and shared responsibility.
The Idea Foundry, located on West Broad Street in Franklinton, is a 60,000-square-foot community workshop offering shared tools, studio space, and classes. Franklinton has developed into one of Columbus’s most active creative districts over the past decade, and the partnership signals CAPA’s interest in expanding beyond its traditional performing arts footprint in the downtown core.
