Cleveland movement and sound artist Marcia Custer performed a live activation of Texas-based artist Steve Parker’s installation Fight Song at SPACES gallery in Cleveland on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The 30-minute performance was part of a recurring series in which Parker invites regional performers to respond to his work on alternating Saturdays during the exhibition’s run.
Fight Song, on view at SPACES (2900 Detroit Ave., Cleveland) through April 18, 2026, is an immersive participatory sound sculpture that Parker created while serving as artist-in-residence at the gallery. The installation features salvaged band instruments suspended from the ceiling and an EEG brain monitor that translates visitors’ brainwaves into live musical compositions. The work draws on themes of injury, healing, and labor, and references the sonic cultures of football and marching band. Parker, who holds a degree from Oberlin College, has described his practice as creating “sculptural ecosystems that transform spaces into large-scale collaborative performances.”
Custer’s practice centers on experimental sound, feminist and queer approaches to embodiment, and radical community dance. Admission to SPACES is free, though reservations were required for the activation event.
