Cleveland Play House (CPH) is set to present a unique take on Molière’s classic satire, “Tartuffe,” by re-envisioning it with a 1980s sitcom twist. Directed by Jason O’Connell and featuring a translation by Ranjit Bolt, the production will run from April 5 to April 26, 2026, in the Outcalt Theatre.
The play centers on a family whose patriarch falls under the sway of a charismatic con artist. The reimagining draws inspiration from the aesthetics and humor of 1980s television to amplify the play’s themes of hypocrisy and deception. This production aims to deliver a fast-paced, comedic experience while retaining the sharp social commentary inherent in Molière’s original work.
