ProMusica Chamber Orchestra will close its 47th season with two programs at the Southern Theatre in Columbus this May, featuring violinist Vadim Gluzman and the return of its signature NAKED CLASSICS format. The back-to-back programs represent the organization’s season finale under Music Director David Danzmayr.
The NAKED CLASSICS: Appalachian Spring program on May 15 at 7:30 p.m. will be hosted by Scottish composer and presenter Paul Rissmann, who has hosted the series for ProMusica for several years. The program deconstructs Aaron Copland’s iconic American work through images, sound bites, and musician interviews before presenting a full performance of the piece. The following evening, on May 16 and 17 at 7 p.m., Danzmayr leads the Subscription Series finale, Copland & Shostakovich, at which Gluzman — ProMusica’s Creative Partner since 2013 — will perform Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The program is framed by Shostakovich’s Waltz II from Suite for Variety Orchestra No. 1 and concludes with Johann Strauss II’s Blue Danube Waltz.
“We are excited to end the season with ProMusica’s creative visionaries all together for one weekend of music making — our Music Director David Danzmayr, violinist and Creative Partner Vadim Gluzman, and our longtime NAKED CLASSICS host, Paul Rissmann,” said Janet Chen, ProMusica’s CEO. Tickets for Copland & Shostakovich range from $40 to $70; tickets for NAKED CLASSICS: Appalachian Spring are $32 for general admission. Both shows take place at the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Main St. in Columbus. Tickets are available at promusicacolumbus.org or by calling 614-464-0066.
