A new large-scale mural titled “She Moves with Color” is taking shape on the south-facing second-story wall of the Moxy Hotel Columbus along North High Street in Columbus’s Short North Arts District. Columbus artist Mandi Caskey, known professionally as Miss Birdy, began the installation in late April and is expected to complete the work in early May 2026.
The project is a direct reference to the Short North’s original Mona Lisa mural, a district landmark created in 1990 by artist Brian Clemons that defined the neighborhood’s visual identity for more than three decades. Caskey’s work reimagines that legacy for a changed neighborhood, celebrating the Short North’s continuing role as a cultural gathering place. The original Mona Lisa mural will be decommissioned to make way for future artwork.
The Short North Alliance is coordinating the installation, which is supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council, the Ohio Arts Council, Crawford Hoying, and Compton Construction. Betsy Pandora, the Alliance’s executive director, said the project reflects the district’s approach to spring programming: “Spring in the Short North is about creating moments for people to come together and experience something new.” Pedestrians can observe the mural in progress as Caskey works on the exterior wall. A public dedication event and artist conversation with Caskey is scheduled for June 24.
