The Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) will depart June 1 for a week-long concert tour of Austria and the Czech Republic, the ensemble’s first international trip since a 2005 tour of China. Thirty-six high school musicians from nine central Ohio school districts will perform under Music Director Elias Miller.

The tour includes performances at the Minoritenkirche in Vienna on June 5 and Prague Conservatory Hall on June 7. The program features works by Brahms, Elgar, Hummel, Mendelssohn, and Mozart, with Grove City High School senior Nolan Grosse performing as trumpet soloist in Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto. Students will also visit Mozart’s birthplace in Salzburg, the Vienna House of Music, and Prague Castle.

Participating students come from the Bexley, Dublin, Granville, New Albany-Plain, Olentangy, Pickerington, South-Western, Upper Arlington, and Worthington school districts. Vice President for Education Meghan McDevitt called the tour “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of our community’s most promising young musicians.”
