Cleveland Heights will receive eight new public art installations this summer across the Coventry and Cedar Lee Arts Districts through a partnership led by Heights Arts, LAND Studio, and the City of Cleveland Heights. The initiative, which invests more than $250,000, coincides with Heights Arts’ 25th anniversary and the centennial celebrations of both Cedar Lee Theatre and Cleveland Heights High School.
Six murals will be installed along Lee Road in the Cedar Lee district. The selected artists and locations are: Thao Nguyen at the Cain Park Bicycle Building, Crystal Miller and Ewuresi Archer at the Central Outreach Building, Arlin Graff at Cedar Lee Theatre, Dante Rodriguez at the Green Olive Building, Raphael Valdivieso at the Cozumel Mexican Restaurant Building, and Justin Michael Will at the Anatolia Office Building. Funding comes from approximately $2.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act dollars that Cleveland Heights awarded to 15 nonprofit organizations in 2023.
In the Coventry district, Jordan Wong will create an installation at the north end celebrating “Little Asia Town” at Mayfield and Coventry Roads, and Marika Shioiri-Clark will build a performance structure at Pekar Park on the south end. Heights Arts Executive Director Rachel Bernstein said the project “became possible through extraordinary collaboration” among city officials, volunteers, studios, businesses, and property owners. Heights Arts will also commission local poets to respond to the artworks.
