The Toledo Symphony Orchestra has extended Music Director Alain Trudel’s contract through the 2028-2029 season. Trudel has led the orchestra since joining as Music Director Designate in the 2017-2018 season and assuming the full role in 2018. He also serves as Artistic Director of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra through 2026-2027.
During his tenure, Trudel has collaborated with internationally recognized artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Branford Marsalis, and Olga Kern. His programming has emphasized new works, emerging composers, multidisciplinary performances, and education initiatives including side-by-side concerts with youth orchestras.
Zak Vassar, President and CEO of Live Arts Toledo, said “Alain leads our orchestra with imagination, rigor, and heart.” Board Chair Marna Ramnath added that the extension “reflects both our appreciation and our optimism.” Principal Trombonist Garth Simmons noted that “the artistic standard and morale of the orchestra have risen markedly during his tenure.”
