Dayton Ballet dancers voted in December to be represented by the American Guild of Musical Artists, the labor union representing performers in opera, ballet, and concert dance. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, which operates the ballet alongside the Dayton Philharmonic and Dayton Opera, said it respects the dancers’ legal right to organize and will begin formal collective bargaining with AGMA under federal labor law.
“Our dancers are extraordinary artists whose talent enriches the cultural life of our region,” said DPAA President and CEO Patrick Nugent. The alliance, which is the only organization in the country creating ballet, opera, and orchestra performances under a single unified artistic structure, said it remains committed to maintaining a respectful working environment.
