Renowned composer Joe Hisaishi will make his debut with The Cleveland Orchestra on September 4 and 5, 2025, at Severance Music Center. Hisaishi, celebrated for his work in film and acclaimed classical compositions, will conduct three of his own pieces.

The program will feature his Symphony No. 3, “Metaphysica,” and the U.S. premiere of a concert suite from the Academy Award-winning film “The Boy and the Heron.” The concert will also include “Viola Saga for Orchestra,” with soloist Antoine Tamestit, who previously performed the work’s world premiere.

Hisaishi, often called “the John Williams of Japan,” has composed scores for over 100 films, including many for Studio Ghibli, and has won seven Japanese Academy Awards. His distinctive blend of classical, minimalist, and electronic styles has garnered international acclaim, with his live performances frequently selling out major venues worldwide.
