The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has announced Joan Madison and Lydia Smith as the recipients of its 2025 Artist Exchange Program. This annual program facilitates an international residency for Columbus-based artists in Dresden, Germany, fostering cultural exchange and artistic development. Both artists are set to embark on 60 to 90-day residencies between March and November 2025, with GCAC providing stipends, lodging, studio space, and travel accommodations.
Fashion designer Joan Madison, recognized for her work in high-fashion evening wear and past accolades from events like New York Fashion Week, plans to engage with Dresden’s textile collections and fashion institutions. Interdisciplinary artist Lydia Smith, whose practice centers on archives and the exploration of time, place, and death, intends to research local archives and landmarks for a new body of work on ruins. This program, now in its 29th year, is conducted in partnership with the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony as part of the Sister City program.
