The Cleveland Orchestra will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its 46th annual Celebration Concert on Sunday, January 11, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Concert Hall at Severance Music Center. This free, public event aims to celebrate Dr. King’s message of hope, justice, and unity through music. The concert will feature the Cleveland Orchestra led by Assistant Conductor Taichi Fukumura, with soprano Latonia Moore and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Chorus.
In addition to the concert, the Orchestra is hosting a free, family-friendly MLK Community Open House & Day of Music on Monday, January 19, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Severance Music Center. This event will offer live performances from various community ensembles, interactive activities, and opportunities to explore the building. Attendees can also enjoy complimentary refreshments and family portraits. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Awards will also be presented during the January 11 concert, recognizing individuals and organizations making a positive impact on music and the arts.
Tickets for the free concert will be available starting January 3, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of four per household. Parking will be free for the January 11 concert at the Case Western Reserve University Campus Center Garage. The concert will also be livestreamed and broadcast on various radio and online platforms, ensuring wider access to this commemoration.
