The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has announced the distribution of $880,748 through its second and final ‘Funds for Artists’ grant cycle of 2023. A total of 549 grants were awarded, with over 65% of recipients being first-time applicants to the program. This initiative, formerly known as Support for Professional Artists, aims to aid individual artists and artist collaboratives in creating new work, enhancing their skills, and expanding their audience reach.

The grants support a range of artistic endeavors, with the maximum award amount increased to $1,700 for 2023. Eligible expenses now include costs for computers, event participation, and travel for formal performance and educational opportunities. When combined with the $945,326 awarded in the March cycle, the total for the ‘Funds for Artists’ program in 2023 reaches $1,826,074 distributed to 1,139 artists, a significant increase from the $785,650 awarded to 656 artists in 2022.
