The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has announced the appointment of Mitch Menchaca as its new President and CEO. Menchaca, who previously served as the Arts and Culture Director for the city of Phoenix, brings extensive experience in arts advocacy, fundraising, and leadership. His tenure officially begins on December 3, 2025, succeeding Tom Katzenmeyer, who is retiring after more than a decade of service.

Menchaca’s career includes significant roles at organizations such as Americans for the Arts, Chorus America, and the Association of California Symphony Orchestras. He is recognized for his work in supporting local arts agencies and for his efforts in managing cultural investments, including significant COVID-19 relief funding for the arts sector in Phoenix. Menchaca has also served on various national and local boards dedicated to arts and community development.

GCAC’s Board of Trustees expressed enthusiasm for Menchaca’s leadership, citing his commitment to enriching Columbus’s cultural landscape. Menchaca stated his excitement to build upon GCAC’s existing momentum, expand its programs and services, and secure greater resources for the organization and the arts community in central Ohio.
