The Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University will present the Midwest debut of “Hew Locke: Passages,” a comprehensive exhibition of works by the Guyanese British artist Hew Locke. The exhibition, organized by the Yale Center for British Art, will be on view from February 14 to May 24, 2026.
“Hew Locke: Passages” will feature a wide range of Locke’s artistic output, including installation, photography, sculpture, and works on paper, spanning his career from the 1990s to the present. The exhibition aims to provide US audiences with a complete overview of Locke’s practice, which often explores the legacy of imperialism, colonialism, and the formation of hybrid identities.
The exhibition includes significant works such as reworked historical share certificates, sculptural ships, and Black equestrian statues that reinterpret public commemoration. The show is accompanied by an illustrated publication and will travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, after its run at the Wexner Center. An opening celebration is scheduled for February 13, 2026.
