The Cleveland Museum of Art has announced its exhibition and event schedule for August 2022, featuring a diverse range of artistic presentations and public programs. Among the highlights is “The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion,” an exhibition exploring the intersection of these two fields, which runs through September 11. This exhibition, organized by Aperture, New York, is further enhanced in Cleveland with the inclusion of fashion stylings by represented artists, offering a unique perspective on narrative creation in photography.

In addition to “The New Black Vanguard,” the museum is hosting “FRONT International 2022: Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows,” a multivenue exhibition that includes installations at the Cleveland Museum of Art through October 2. This iteration of the triennial art event aims to explore art as an agent of transformation and healing. The museum will also feature “Medieval Treasures from Münster Cathedral” until August 14, showcasing rare reliquaries and liturgical objects. Other ongoing exhibitions include “Cycles of Life: The Four Seasons Tapestries” through February 19, 2023, and “Text and Image in Southern Asia” opening August 26.

August programming includes various on-site events such as a “Lunchtime Lecture: The New Black Vanguard: Fashion through Empowerment” on August 2, and the “Art and Healing” event on August 20. The museum’s “City Stages” concert series will take place on August 3 and 10 in front of Transformer Station, featuring artists Dobet Gnahoré and Cimafunk respectively. Daily guided tours of the museum’s collection are also available. The CMA Community Arts Center will continue its regular programming with “Family FUNdays” and “Open Studio” sessions.
