Nannette V. Maciejunes, who has led the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) as Executive Director and CEO for two decades, announced her intention to retire at the end of 2022. Maciejunes, who joined the museum in 1984 and previously served as acting director and chief curator, expressed her fulfillment in making the museum a welcoming space for the community. Her tenure has been marked by significant growth and achievements, including a major capital campaign that renovated existing facilities and built a new wing, effectively doubling the museum’s size.
Under Maciejunes’ leadership, CMA received the National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2013 and unveiled the acclaimed Margaret M. Walter Wing in 2015. The museum also expanded its footprint with the addition of The Pizzuti Collection in 2019 and the Shackelford Family George Bellows Center in 2021. Maciejunes’ commitment to fostering creativity and community engagement is also evident in initiatives such as Wonder School and the Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson Legacy Project.
The CMA Board of Trustees has engaged Koya Leadership Partners to conduct a national search for Maciejunes’ successor. The search committee, led by trustee Pete Scantland, will gather input from community leaders to guide the selection process. Maciejunes will continue in her role until her replacement is in place, ensuring a smooth transition for the esteemed institution.
