The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has announced Sterling Carter and Mariah Layne French as the recipients of its 2022 Artists Elevated awards. Each artist will receive an unrestricted $20,000 grant, aimed at significantly advancing their careers. The awards are intended for Columbus-based artists with a minimum of three years of professional experience.
Sterling Carter, a videographer and cinematographer, has produced documentaries on social justice and community issues. Mariah Layne French is a dance artist, choreographer, and co-founder of Xclaim Dance Company and Centre for the Arts, dedicated to dance education and performance. A national jury selected Carter and French from a pool of 90 applicants. Twelve other finalists will receive $1,000 each in recognition of their work.
The Artists Elevated awards are part of GCAC’s broader initiative to invest in individual artists. Carter and French, along with the finalists, will be honored at an event on November 3, 2022. This program highlights GCAC’s commitment to supporting and elevating the arts community in Columbus.
