The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati has announced the creation of a new Creativity Center, set to transform the sixth floor of its Zaha Hadid-designed building. The environmentally conscious hub aims to foster innovation and curiosity across all age groups by reimagining the current interactive gallery and education space. This initiative will expand the CAC’s commitment to supporting artists and engaging the community through intergenerational learning and hands-on creative exploration.
Partnering with Chicago-based architecture firm Mir Collective, the project will integrate interactive galleries, making spaces, and community gathering areas with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The Center will feature a zero-waste art lab, a large studio with analog and digital tools, an updated UnMuseum® interactive gallery, and adaptable pavilion spaces for focused work and small gatherings. A community gallery will also be established to showcase visitor artwork, further connecting the space with the city and its residents.
The Creativity Center is designed to be a dynamic resource, encouraging creative experimentation as a tool for understanding complex global issues, including environmental sustainability, identity, and well-being. The project also includes new initiatives such as sensory-friendly programs and an expansion of the CAC’s Co-LAB program, which supports local artists. Construction began in October 2021, with completion anticipated in late summer 2022. Fundraising for the $4.9 million project is ongoing.
