Opera Columbus has revealed the five young artists selected to compete in its annual Cooper-Bing Competition. This year’s competition attracted a record 270 submissions from aspiring opera singers worldwide, all vying for a grand prize of $10,000. The final round will be held at the Southern Theatre on May 15, 2022, at 3:00 PM, as part of the 40 Days of Opera festival celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary.

The judging panel includes esteemed professionals Clare Burovac, Kathleen Kelly, and Dr. Everett McCorvey, with longtime accompanist Ed Bak returning to the piano. Christopher Purdy and Adia Evans will serve as emcees for the event. The competition aims to support and provide exposure for emerging operatic talent, with past participants having launched successful international careers.

Following the competition, a Winner’s Circle reception will be held to honor the finalists. Tickets for the competition are $18.50, and combined tickets for the competition and reception are $40. Sales begin Tuesday, April 19, via the Opera Columbus website.
