The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) has announced a significant gift from the Scantland Family, comprising 27 works of contemporary art and a $2 million endowment. The endowment will fund the newly named Scantland Family Executive Deputy Director of Learning, Experience and Engagement, underscoring the museum’s commitment to innovation and community connection. This gift marks the inaugural contribution to the Scantland Collection at CMA, featuring artists such as Felipe Baeza, Deana Lawson, and GaHee Park, and aims to broaden the museum’s representation of current artistic voices.

The donated artworks will be showcased in the exhibition “Present Generations: Creating the Scantland Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art,” running from June 25, 2021, through May 22, 2022. The exhibition will be accompanied by educational programming involving the featured artists. The endowed position is intended to foster a culture of creativity and collaboration within the museum, ensuring that community engagement remains central to its operations and continues CMA’s recognized leadership in museum learning.

Pete Scantland, vice president of CMA’s Board of Trustees, highlighted the family’s dedication to their hometown and the transformative power of art. The Scantland Collection’s addition to CMA’s permanent holdings signifies a commitment to collecting and preserving contemporary art, providing a global perspective on artistic creation in the mid-21st century for future generations.
