The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has announced the approval of significant funding for local artists. In August 2021, the GCAC Board of Trustees awarded 165 Support for Professional Artists (SPA) grants, totaling $159,257, and eight Big Ideas grants, amounting to $20,000. These grants aim to support the creation of new artwork and the marketing efforts of individual artists and artist groups, as well as fund innovative projects that bring diverse art forms into the community.
The Support for Professional Artists grants, formerly known as Artists in the Community, are designed to assist artists in developing and showcasing their work to a wider audience. The Big Ideas grants specifically target artist-led initiatives that foster community engagement across various art disciplines. Applications for SPA grants have a remaining deadline of October 1, 2021, while Big Ideas grants operate on a rolling monthly deadline through October 31, 2021.
