Clark Gable was born in Cadiz, Ohio, and dropped out of high school at sixteen to work in an Akron tire factory before deciding to pursue acting after seeing a stage play. He worked in stock companies and oil fields before reaching Hollywood. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for It Happened One Night (1934) and starred as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind (1939). Known as the King of Hollywood, he was one of the most popular screen actors of the 20th century.
