Jenny Holzer was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and received her BFA from Ohio University in 1972. She became one of the most prominent American conceptual artists, known for text-based public art projects using LED displays, projections, posters, and marble surfaces. Her Truisms series (1977-79) first appeared as anonymous broadsheets wheat-pasted to buildings around Manhattan. She won the Golden Lion at the 1990 Venice Biennale for her installation in the United States Pavilion.
