Biography

Jim Dine was born in Cincinnati and attended evening classes at The Art Academy of Cincinnati before earning his BFA from Ohio University in 1957. He became a pioneering figure in the Happenings movement and was associated with Pop Art, though he never considered himself part of that movement. His recurring imagery of tools, hearts, and robes draws from his childhood spent in his grandfather’s Cincinnati hardware store. He co-founded the Judson Gallery in New York with Claes Oldenburg.

Notable Works
