The Cincinnati Art Museum began a nearly year-long construction project on its south-facing ground level on August 25, 2023, with completion expected by fall 2024. The project adds two new classrooms (seating 16 and 24, connected by a moveable wall), a research center for photography, prints, and drawings, and a 144-seat flexible event space.
The Marek Family Commons will provide dedicated space for school field trips, art-making classes, and after-school programs. The Carl M. Jacobs Center, supported by the Carl M. Jacobs Foundation at Fifth Third, will offer public access to more than 30,000 works on paper. The ground level’s DeWitt Entrance will relocate to the building’s original central axis, with a new natural-light staircase connecting to the Cincinnati Wing above.
Emersion DESIGN handled the project design, with Walnut Hills-based Triversity Construction managing the build. The museum’s main entrance remained open during construction. The project is funded through the museum’s A New View campaign, which surpassed its $65 million goal in October.
