The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) is set to launch its spring exhibition season on Tuesday, April 29, featuring three new exhibitions that delve into environmental themes and artistic activism. Headlining the new offerings is “APEIRON: The Eco-Art of John Sabraw,” an original exhibition showcasing the artist’s nature-inspired work that addresses pressing environmental concerns through painting, sculpture, and video. Sabraw’s unique practice involves collaborating with scientists to create art from materials used in environmental remediation, such as iron oxide extracted from polluted streams.

Complementing “APEIRON” are “Art & Activism: Perspectives from the CMA Collection,” which highlights works from the museum’s collection that address social and political issues through various mediums and artists like Corita Kent and Romare Bearden, and “This Riverbed is a Cradle,” featuring the botanically-dyed, handwoven fiber art of Michelle Wentling. These exhibitions aim to spark dialogue about the environment, social justice, and the role of art in driving change.

The museum will host a free opening celebration and gallery talk on Thursday, May 1, from 5-7 pm, providing an opportunity for the public to engage with the exhibitions and the artists. All three exhibitions will be on view through July 27, 2025, offering visitors an extended period to explore these timely and thought-provoking collections.
