The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) is set to launch its winter exhibition season on November 26, 2024, with four new shows that delve into significant chapters of the American art scene. Leading the offerings is “Bohemian Chrysalis: Unveiling Cleveland’s Infamous Kokoon Klub,” a featured original exhibition exploring the avant-garde artistic movement in Cleveland from the early to mid-20th century. This exhibition draws from the CMA’s collection and collaborations with various institutions and private collections, aiming to showcase the vibrant and often outrageous artistic development of the era.
Complementing “Bohemian Chrysalis” are three other compelling exhibitions. “Night Visions: Nocturnes in American Art” will present a themed exhibition from the CMA’s collection, exploring the artistic interpretations of nighttime. “Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here” will feature the enigmatic work of contemporary artist Kit Palencar, examining themes of life, death, and perception. Finally, “El Albañil” will highlight the printmaking, papermaking, and sculptural work of J. Leigh Garcia, who uses her art to explore her biracial identity and familial history. All four exhibitions will be on view through March 2, 2025.
