The Canton Museum of Art will open four new exhibitions on November 26, 2024, on view through March 2, 2025. The featured exhibition, “Bohemian Chrysalis: Unveiling Cleveland’s Infamous Kokoon Klub,” examines the avant-garde artistic movement in Cleveland from roughly 1911 to the 1940s, drawn from CMA’s collection and collaborations with the Cleveland History Center, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Public Library, Kent State University, and private collections.

The Kokoon Arts Klub was founded in 1911 by artists from the Otis Lithograph Company to promote modern art. Members included August Biehle, Joseph Jicha, Henry Keller, Walt Scott, Abel Warshawsky, and William Zorach. The club’s annual Bal Masque events grew from hundreds of attendees in the early years to thousands by the late 1920s before the club declined during the Great Depression.

Three additional exhibitions open the same day: “Night Visions: Nocturnes in American Art” from the CMA collection; “Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here” by Kit Palencar of Cuyahoga Falls, exploring themes of life and death; and “El Albañil” by printmaker and sculptor J. Leigh Garcia.
