Opera Columbus is concluding its record-breaking 42nd season with the premiere of “A Magic Flute Experience: The Temple.” This immersive production reimagines Mozart’s opera, offering a new English-language libretto to make the story more inclusive and accessible. The show promises a fantastical journey filled with dragons, princesses, and trials, blending classical music with elements of Broadway, circus, and high fashion.
Performances are scheduled to run from April 19-28 in a secret, speakeasy-style venue in Downtown Columbus, with the exact location revealed to ticket holders only 36 hours in advance. The production is directed by Allegra Libonati, known for her large-scale immersive works, and musically arranged by local artist Que Jones. The opening night is already sold out, with limited tickets remaining for subsequent shows.
Julia Noulin-Mérat, Opera Columbus’ General Director + CEO, expressed excitement for the innovative production, stating, “The Temple is unlike anything we have ever done in the history of the company, and I think that people of all walks of life will love this experience.” The show aims to attract a diverse audience by presenting opera in a fresh and engaging format.
