The Cleveland Institute of Music announced on April 16 the appointment of François Germain as director of CIM Opera Theater and Voice Ensembles. Germain, who has taught at CIM as professor of voice studies, will continue in that role while taking on the new position.
Germain is a vocal coach, pianist, and educator from Aix-en-Provence, France. He holds a Doctor of Music degree in piano performance from the Université de Montréal and a master’s-level diploma in political science from Sciences Po. Since 2017 he has served as a guest vocal and language coach at the Semperoper in Dresden. He performs as a recitalist and collaborative pianist across Europe and North America and has worked with The Cleveland Orchestra. He coaches in French, German, English, Italian, and Russian.
“I am deeply honored and energized to step into this role,” Germain said. Scott Harrison, CIM’s executive vice president and provost, said Germain “will build a program that reflects both the traditions and the future of opera, vocal chamber music, art song, and more.”
