The Cleveland Institute of Music announced on May 27 that the renovation of Kulas Hall received the Construction or Renovation Project of the Year Award from the Northern Ohio chapter of NAIOP, the commercial real estate development association. The $22 million project, completed on time and on budget in September 2025, transformed the 1961 concert hall that serves as CIM’s primary performance venue.

The renovation installed a new high-performance acoustic space inside the existing historic structure. Cleveland-based J. Kurtz Architects designed the project with acoustic consulting from Threshold Acoustics and theater consulting from Theatre Projects. Turner Construction Company handled the build, which ran from May 2024 through September 2025.

Kulas Hall is home to the CIM Orchestra, Opera Theater, and other student ensembles. It also hosts regional performing arts organizations throughout the year.
