Cleveland Ballet partnered with the Akron Art Museum for a special outdoor performance of “Impressions of Picasso” on May 31 in the museum’s courtyard. The program explored Pablo Picasso’s lifelong connection to dance through two ballets inspired by his “Guernica” and “Harlequin” paintings, along with excerpts from “Don Quixote” and “Paquita” reflecting Picasso’s Spanish influences.
A free pre-performance “Behind the Curtain” discussion with Cleveland Ballet’s artistic staff preceded the show. Picasso’s involvement in ballet production spanned his career, contributing designs for stage curtains, costumes, sets and backdrops across 10 ballet productions.
The collaboration brought together two of Northeast Ohio’s cultural institutions in Akron and Cleveland, extending Cleveland Ballet’s reach into Summit County. Tickets ranged from $30 for lawn seating to $70 for premium front row seats, with discounts for Akron Art Museum members.
