The Akron Art Museum is marking Akron’s bicentennial with exhibitions and events focused on the city’s artistic history. The centerpiece exhibition, “A Growing Conversation: Artworks From Our Collection,” features 23 pieces with ties to Akron and Summit County, including works by Mark Mothersbaugh (founding member of DEVO), rock photographer Janet Macoska, abstract painter Frank Werner, regional landscape painter Julius Faysash, and portraitist John Sokol.
The museum is also running the 41st season of its Downtown@Dusk free outdoor music concert series on the museum’s plaza, Thursdays in July. The series includes a partnership with the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival for a free performance.
A digital gallery of the bicentennial-highlighted works is available through the free Bloomberg Connects app.
