The Akron Art Museum and Akron Children’s Museum launched Art & Play on December 16, 2024, a collaborative community project funded by the Orr Foundation focused on youth in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood. The initiative distributes 500 Art & Play boxes filled with art supplies, games, and museum passes to children in grades PreK through 5 and their families.
Each box includes guest passes to both museums, Metro RTA bus passes for free round-trip transportation, monster mascot puppets, and supplies for sculpture-making activities with air-dry clay, pipe cleaners, and sketchbooks. The boxes accommodate multiple age groups, languages, and developmental needs.
Distribution partners include Urban Vision, Proyecto RAICES, the North Hill Community Development Center, the North Hill branch of the Summit County Public Library, and direct outreach to immigrant families in the diverse neighborhood.
