Cincinnati Museum Center opened “Lens of History: A Celebration of People, Spaces and Emotions,” an exhibition of more than 200 historic and contemporary photographs documenting Black Cincinnati from the 1800s to the 2000s. The exhibition is curated by Toilynn O’Neal Turner and draws from Black photographers and community photo collections.
The exhibition is part of the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial, which the organization describes as the largest photography event of its kind in America, featuring 108 projects at 87 venues across Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky.
The photographs document people, spaces, and communities in historically Black neighborhoods, many of which have been diminished by urbanization, redlining, and rising housing costs. The exhibition invites visitors to connect their own stories with those of the past.
