ProMusica Chamber Orchestra will close its 47th season with two programs in May at the Southern Theatre in Columbus. The Subscription Series finale, Copland & Shostakovich, takes place May 16-17, with Music Director David Danzmayr conducting and Creative Partner Vadim Gluzman performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The program also includes Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Johann Strauss II’s Blue Danube Waltz.
On May 15, the orchestra’s Naked Classics program, hosted by Scottish composer and presenter Paul Rissmann, will deconstruct Appalachian Spring through images, sound bites, and musician interviews before a full performance of the work. Rissmann holds the position of Animateur with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Gluzman has served as ProMusica’s Creative Partner and Principal Guest Artist since 2013. Tickets for Copland & Shostakovich range from $40 to $70; Naked Classics general admission tickets are $32. The orchestra, founded in 1979, has commissioned 73 new works and presented more than 130 world and regional premieres over its history.
